NINETY-SEVEN
This was the
197th participant. He has done two casts, one in 1997 at 45 years
of age and this one in 1999 when he was 47. He is the CEO of a
large printing company. His forst cast is in the collection of
the Minnesota Science Center in St. paul, Minnesota. The following
comments have been lifted from the information he gave to the
Center.
Participant's
response
"I've
always been tall and big-boned and I like that, jus because of
the authoritative stature that such a physical presence conveys.
It compensates for my rather shy personality. When I was 30 years
old, I had a 33-inch waist and weighed 190 pounds. Now, I have
a 42-inch waist and weigh 275 pounds.
Living in
a larger body means buying clothing at the Big and Tall shops
and my choices are limited. It also means I don't fit well into
lots of cars and coach airline seats. It's disconcerting to wonder
if an old ladder can hold my weight, or to have to think about
whether a given chair can support me before I sit in it.
Since I am
a rather strong-minded individual, I never even think about what
our culture's ideal body is, because I really don't care.
I was intrigued
with the intensity of the cast images I saw in an exhibit. I decided
it would be fun to see what my image would look like three-dimensionally,
so I called Larry, and offered to pose. I was amazed at the result…
I didn't realize how big I really was until I saw the finished
body cast. It was a most revealing experience.
In case you
are wondering what kind of guy would pose for a body cast, I am
a member of MENSA and of Internel and I hold a Master of Business
Administration degree from Columbia University."
